Measures vs dimensions
Every metric in Ignyte IQ is built from measures and dimensions.
| Type | What it is | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Measure | A number that can be aggregated | Revenue, Orders, Spend, Conversions, Sessions |
| Dimension | A field used to slice and group | Date, Product, Campaign, Channel, Customer segment |
A metric is typically one measure aggregated by one or more dimensions. Revenue by date is the Revenue measure grouped by the Date dimension; Revenue by product groups it by Product instead.
Why this matters
Section titled “Why this matters”Two metrics that sound similar can use different dimensions:
- “Revenue by Product” → Revenue measure, Product dimension.
- “Revenue by Campaign” → Revenue measure, Campaign dimension.
Both are correct; they answer different questions. The ℹ️ panel and Metric Definitions show which measure and dimension a metric uses.
