Measures vs dimensions

Every metric in Ignyte IQ is built from measures and dimensions.

TypeWhat it isExamples
MeasureA number that can be aggregatedRevenue, Orders, Spend, Conversions, Sessions
DimensionA field used to slice and groupDate, Product, Campaign, Channel, Customer segment

A metric is typically one measure aggregated by one or more dimensions. Revenue by date is the Revenue measure grouped by the Date dimension; Revenue by product groups it by Product instead.

Two metrics that sound similar can use different dimensions:

  • “Revenue by Product” → Revenue measure, Product dimension.
  • “Revenue by Campaign” → Revenue measure, Campaign dimension.

Both are correct; they answer different questions. The ℹ️ panel and Metric Definitions show which measure and dimension a metric uses.
